In a bold move to redefine its market presence, the well-known sofa retailer CSL has undergone a comprehensive rebranding, emerging as Sofaworks. This strategic transformation is part of the company’s ambitious plan to reach a groundbreaking £100m in sales. By the festive season, all 26 stores across the country will bear the new Sofaworks name, signaling a fresh era for the family-run business.
Revolutionizing the Furniture Shopping Experience
With the rebrand comes a suite of innovative offerings, including a revamped website and the launch of a dedicated shopping app. For the first time, Sofaworks is introducing its very own exclusive line of sofas, complemented by a selection of unique product ranges. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to set Sofaworks apart from competitors by fostering a distinct culture and a seamless multichannel shopping experience.
Record-Breaking Growth on the Horizon
Sofaworks is gearing up to announce its most impressive financial results to date. The company has seen a 17% increase in turnover this year, a surge bolstered by the opening of three new stores in Slough, Paisley, and Solihull, as well as consistent single-digit like-for-like sales growth. With the year-end target firmly in sight, Sofaworks anticipates its turnover to exceed the £100m mark, a significant leap from £89.2m in the previous year.
Expansion and Employment Opportunities Abound
The retailer is not only expanding its physical presence with new stores in Coventry and Stockton-on-Tees but is also generating employment, with 125 new jobs created by these openings. Furthermore, Sofaworks has relocated its Blackburn store to a more prominent location. The momentum continues into the new year, with plans to open nine additional stores and create another 225 jobs, reflecting a resurgence in consumer confidence, particularly for high-value items.
Customer-Centric Philosophy at the Core
Jason Tyldesley, the chief executive of Sofaworks, emphasizes the company’s commitment to a customer-first approach. “We have always taken pride in treating customers with respect and being open and honest – these are the values that have been with the business from the start. However, as Sofaworks, we’re taking that proposition a step further, creating a truly unique and market-beating customer offer,” Tyldesley states. He also highlights the company’s aversion to aggressive sales tactics, ensuring a relaxed and friendly shopping environment.
Strengthening the Leadership Team
As Sofaworks gears up for a pivotal year, it has strategically bolstered its senior team with key appointments. Kevin Snowball, formerly of Lloyds Pharmacy, has stepped in as head of retail; Simon Farnsworth, previously the chief executive of Floors-2-Go, has taken on the role of head of finance; and Jason Glover, with a background as head of IT at luxury travel brand Kuoni, has been appointed chief information officer. These additions are set to steer Sofaworks towards a prosperous future.
Investing in Infrastructure
The company is also expanding its logistical capabilities with a new distribution center in Rugby, set to be operational before Christmas. This will be the fifth distribution site in the UK, enhancing the retailer’s ability to meet customer demand efficiently.

Since its inception by the Tyldesley family in 1984 as a humble store near Burnley, Lancashire, Sofaworks has grown exponentially. Remaining family-owned, the company now employs over 700 people and stands as a testament to the enduring vision and dedication of its founders.
